Regulations for Using the Library

To ensure users a good environment for using the library, we have established the following regulations. We appreciate your understanding.

  • 1. Hours

    9:30~16:30

  • 2. Holidays

    Tuesday, Sunday, National Holidays, and December 26~January 5 of the following year

  • 3. We reserve the right to deny entry to people in the following categories:

    • Those who do not follow the directions of the staff.
    • Those who disturb the quiet atmosphere of the library or threaten to do so.
    • Those who have damaged the facilities or materials in the library or threaten to do so.
    • Those who are high school students or younger.
    • Those who are not using materials held by the Toyo Bunko Library.
    • We may limit entrance when the all of the seats in the reading room are occupied.
  • 4. Viewing Materials

    Except for reference materials, all materials held by Toyo Bunko are in the library stacks. When you wish to see materials, please fill out the request form and present it to the library staff. Materials may only be used within the library. When you have finished using the materials, or when you leave the room, please bring the materials you are viewing to the desk. In the case of materials classified as rare books, please submit your requests in advance.
  • 5. Copy Service

    Toyo Bunko provides copy services within the restrictions laid down by Copyright Law.
  • 6. Reference Service

    Toyo Bunko provides guidance regarding bibliographic data on materials and holdings in the Toyo Bunko collection, and regarding searching, viewing, and copying such materials. We do not provide the following kinds of information: information on the authenticity and market value of old books and art works; recommendations for good books to read; explanations or translations of texts; advice on citations and other such questions related to research.

  • 7. The following activities are prohibited within the library:

    In cases where the following activities occur, or the staff believe that they may occur, individuals may be asked to leave.

    • Damage to facilities or materials, or threat of such damage.
    • Bringing in a smart phone, electronic tablet.
    • Using a radio, CD player or other device that produces sound.
    • Sleeping in the library or running around.
    • Activities that present a danger to other users.
    • Talking in a loud voice, singing or other forms of speech that disturb the study atmosphere or cause problems for other users.
    • Bringing in objects that are flammable or have unpleasant odors.
    • Distributing posters, announcements, or advertisements, selling goods, or invitations to other activities or events.
    • Eating, drinking, smoking, or leaving trash.
  • 8. Steps to take in case of emergencies:

    In case of emergencies, we may close the library without advance warning.

  • 9. Storage period for lost or forgotten items:

    We will store lost or forgotten items for seven days from the time we discover them. After the seven days, such items will be taken to the closest police station.

  • 10. We do not take responsibility for theft of the personal property of users.

  • 11. Parking:

    Toyo Bunko takes no responsibility for cars parked by users in our parking lot. If there should be damage to the vehicle, theft of items in the vehicle, or damage to the vehicle we will provide no compensation.

  • 12. Lockers:

    We provide lockers for the convenience of users; we assume no responsibility if any items are stolen.

  • 13. Please follow the directions of the Staff.
