Web accessibility policy

The Toyo Bunko is committed to improving web accessibility in order to broadly disseminate Asian history and culture. We aim to make our wealth of materials and knowledge easily accessible to all people, regardless of disability.
Our website will provide a user-friendly and accessible environment for all people to use and access information, opening the door for scholarly inquiry and cultural understanding. In this way, we promote a deeper understanding of and empathy for Asia and contribute to the dissemination of knowledge.
The Toyo Bunko will continue to improve web accessibility, along with ongoing technological innovations such as screen reader support, optimized keyboard navigation, and improved visual contrast, so that all people can share in our cultural heritage and scholarly resources.

Target Standards and Conformance Levels

We aim to meet the criteria for conformance level AA in the Japanese Industrial Standard JIS X 8341-3:2016 "Guidelines for Designing for the Elderly and Persons with Disabilities - Information and Communications Equipment, Software and Services - Part 3: Web Content".

Accommodation Status

  • ・ For third-party applications such as Google Maps, YouTube, Facebook, etc., we try to incorporate accessibility considerations as much as possible, but some functions may not meet the accessibility standards. Even in such cases, we will try to provide alternatives (e.g., text-based explanations or summaries).
  • ・ For videos, we will try to make subtitles available whenever possible, but they may not be available for older videos. In such cases, we will endeavor to provide text-based summaries or explanations to the extent possible.
