Synopsis | The production of texts requires both intellectual prerequisites and material tools, such as paper and writing implements. Drawing on finds from Dunhuang and Turfan during the period of the Western Uyghur Kingdom (9th to 14th centuries), this presentation will focus on various objects, particularly brushes and quills. However, we will also discuss the linguistic history of quill terms, focusing on the migration of the word ‘kalamos’. Finally, we will explore some cultural, historical, and literary references in Turkic-Uyghur texts. |
