 岩崎久彌 IWASAKI Hisaya(1865-1955)

Businessman.Born in Province Tosa(Kochi prefecture).Eldest son of Iwasaki Yataro (Founder of Mitsubishi Group of Companies).
In 1893, He inducted as the president of Mitubishi Corporation.
He Contribute to Industrial development in Japan for a long time. Also, He was cooperative with Cultural program and Social work.
In 1901, He bought Max Müller Collection and donated to Tokyo University.
In 1917, He bought Morrison Collection.
In 1927, He started Foundation called Toyo Bunko.He provided financial support to Toyo Bunko, But He did not involved in the management.Besides Toyo Bunko, He collected 38,000 Japanese rare books,with the help of Wada Tsunashiro(Bibliographer).
In 1932,1943,1950,He donated that collection to Toyo Bunko.

The Iwasaki Collection
Here the reader will find a large number of printed books and handwritten manuscripts from old Japan and China collected by Iwasaki hisaya, the founder of Toyo Bunko.
The collection features such rare book types as pre-17th century hand-copied manuscripts (kosho-hon), publications produced by medieval japanese Zen temples (Gozan-ban), 17th century woodblock and copper type printings (kokatsuji-ban), and editions designed and crafted by the early Edo period Kyoto-based calligraphy, ceramics and lacquer artist, Hon'ami Koetsu (Saga-bon).
